Sources close to Wyclef confirmed with AllHipHop.com that the rapper will announce his bid for the country’s highest office next Thursday, on August 5th.

The 37-year-old was born in Haiti, but immigrated to the United States at the age of 9-years-old, when he landed in Brooklyn, before settling in South Orange, New Jersey.

As a member of The Fugees and as a solo artist, Wyclef has sold millions of records, in addition to collaborating with artists like Paul Simon, Gloria Estefen, Destiny’s Child, Carlos Santana and others.

The rapper sprung into action on January 12th, when his native land was leveled by a 7.0 earthquake that left 300,000 people dead over a million others displaced.

Even prior to the earthquake, Wyclef Jean’s Yele Haiti organization raised funds for the country, but after the deadly earthquake, the rapper helped raise over $10 million dollars in less than three months.

The rapper will make his official announcement just two days prior to the country’s August 7th deadline to submit his plan for running for President.

Analysts are predicting that Wyclef Jean will easily win the race with his financial connections, influence among the Haitian youth and his political influence around the world.

The news of his candidacy has stoked fears in opponents planning to run for the head office in November.

"I think if Wyclef is allowed to run he will have a straight victory," political leader and former presidential candidate Himmler Rebu told Reuters yesterday.

Jean, who maintained his status as a citizen of Haiti, was in the country yesterday, where he was preparing for his upcoming campaign.

The rapper/musician also has political clout in the country.

His uncle, Raymond Alcide Joseph, has been the Haitian ambassador to the United States since 2005 and helped Wyclef’s drive to raise money and relief aid for victims of the massive earthquake.

Elections are slated for November 28th.

Guru of Gangstarr Dies, Writes Letter To Supporters

Legendary Gangstarr artist Guru has succumbed to cancer after a lengthy bout with the disease.

The artist, born Keith Elam, died on Monday April 19. He was 43 years old.

Solar, Guru's partner, expressed sadness over the loss.

"The world has lost one of the best MCs and Hip-Hop icons of all-time -- my loyal best friend, partner, and brother, Guru," Solar said in a statement. "Guru has been battling cancer for well over a year and has lost his battle! This is a matter that Guru wanted private until he could beat it, but tragically, this did not happen. The cancer took him. Now the world has lost a great man and a true genius.

Guru, a Boston native, rose to fame in the 80's as one half of Gangstarr, the iconic rap group with DJ Premier.

The group released six highly regarded albums in their tenure until 2003 when they broke up. After his successful run with Premier, Guru founded 7 Grand Records with producer Solar.

Solar went on to tend to the rapper as he fell ill, seemingly controlling the flow of information and access to Guru. Many of his family members complained that they were denied their right to see him.

Solar also said that Guru wrote a letter to fans and sent it out through a press agency.

"For the fans that reached out with love and support, I can't tell you how much that meant to Guru and myself. Guru prepared this letter (read below) while he was in the hospital for the fans," the producer continued. "I hope now that Guru has moved on to a better place."

In the letter, seen below, the rapper explains his illness, expresses gratitude to supporters and offers some parting words for DJ Premiere.

I, Guru, am writing this letter to my fans, friends and loved ones around the world. I have had a long battle with cancer and have succumbed to the disease. I have suffered with this illness for over a year. I have exhausted all medical options.

I have a non-profit organization called Each One Counts dedicated to carrying on my charitable work on behalf of abused and disadvantaged children from around the world and also to educate and research a cure for this terrible disease that took my life. I write this with tears in my eyes, not of sorrow but of joy for what a wonderful life I have enjoyed and how many great people I have had the pleasure of meeting.

My loyal best friend, partner and brother, Solar, has been at my side through it all and has been made my health proxy by myself on all matters relating to myself. He has been with me by my side on my many hospital stays, operations, doctors visits and stayed with me at my home and cared for me when I could not care for myself. Young Buck Says 50 Cent Is Trying To Destroy His Career

Nashville, Tennessee rapper Young Buck recently took aim at 50 Cent, revealing the Queens-rapper is still feuding with him and attempting to destroy his career.

Young Buck was once a member of 50 Cent’s G-Unit collective.

Under his tenure with 50’s G-Unit Records, the rapper was featured on the hit album Beg for Mercy, while his follow-up, Straight Outta Cashville went platinum.

But Young Buck was unceremoniously kicked out of G-Unit for allegedly being disloyal to the group in April of 2008.

50 Cent has been at odds with the Nashville rapper ever since.

According to Young Buck, 50 Cent is blackballing him from the rap game and preventing him from working with other artists, due to his contractual obligation to G-Unit.

"His reaction, being so harsh, is to basically stall me out to a position where I lose everything, to where my numbers drop," Young Buck told the Nashville Scene in a new interview. "Because if you don't have a new product out, then you can't go get the big dollar for your shows. [He wants] to pretty much destroy my life from a silent-sided way of doing things. That's his angle, and my contracts allow him to be able to do that."

Young Buck stated that he is still very much in demand as an artist and has had the opportunity to work with a variety of artists, including longtime affiliate Lil Wayne.

But 50 Cent is allegedly preventing Young Buck from making guest appearances, which would raise his profile in addition to putting money in his pocket.

"The problem is, I go to be a feature on their hit record, and then they have to go to 50 Cent to clear me on the record, and he says, 'No.' And they're looking like, 'Well, damn' — cause if it wasn't for that I would probably be on every record that's out right now, cause everybody and their mama reaches out and gives me support," a frustrated Young Buck said.

Despite the allegations against 50 Cent, Young Buck is continuing to push forward with his career.

Exclusive: Lloyd Banks Beats Assault Charge In Canada

G-Unit member Lloyd Banks won a major victory in court last week (July 15th), when an Ontario judge dismissed criminal charges against the Queens, New York rapper.

The charges stemmed from an incident in January of 2010, when Lloyd Banks, born Christopher Lloyd and a group of men allegedly assaulted Chris Hines, a well known booking agent in Ontario, Canada.

Banks and several other men were accused of assaulting Hines after a show at Club NV, just outside of Ontario.

Hines claimed that Banks and several other men held him hostage in a hotel room and assaulted him for over 20 minutes.

Last week, Justice Michael Epstein dismissed all charges relating to the January incident, which sparked headlines around the world.

“Banks would like to thank his Canadian counsel, Patrick Ducharme, and the authorities in Ontario for doing ‘the right thing,” Banks’ United States lawyer, Scott Leemon ESQ., told AllHipHop.com.

“After a careful and neutral evaluation of the facts, it is good to see that the system actually worked,” Leemon stated. “With this finally behind him, Banks looks forward to coming back to Canada soon.”
Charges were also withdrawn against two other men in the assault case, while a third, Nicklas Sloane, pled guilty to assault and received a $2,500 fine.

Lil Wayne Writing "Amazing" Lyrics In Prison

Rapper Lil’ Wayne recently wrote to fans from jail and described his life behind bars on Rikers Island.

"I wake up around 11 a.m. Have some coffee. Call my kids, and my wonderful mother. I then shower up. Read fan mail," Lil Wayne wrote in a letter posted on weezythanxyou.com.

After that, the hip-hop star has lunch, gets back on the phone, reads a book or jots down his thoughts.

After dinner, he makes one more trip to the phone and does some pushups.

"Then I listen to ESPN on the radio. Read the bible, then sleep. That's my day," he wrote.

The 27-year-old rapper, whose real name is Dwayne Carter, is serving a one-year sentence for having a loaded gun on his tour bus in New York City after a concert July 22, 2007.

Cops who boarded Lil Wayne's tour bus said they saw him toss the .40-caliber Springfield Armory semiautomatic handgun into a Louis Vuitton knapsack.

There was no question the knapsack was his, cops said -- it had his stuff in it, including a prescription bearing the name Dwayne Carter.

Wayne also said that he had been listening to the radio a that he is still diligently working on his lyrics.

“I’ve been writing and let me be the first to tell you that the lyrics that I’m writing are… well there’s no word that I can think of that properly defines them,” Lil Wayne wrote. “Amazing would be too typical and perfect would be unfair. Alisema serikali imekuwa ikitumia mamilioni ya fedha kupambana na ugonjwa huo na hivyo kuwezesha dawa nyingi ghali duniani zinazopunguza makali ya ugonjwa huo na kutibu magonjwa sugu kutolewa bure kwa wananchi.

Alitoa mfano wa dawa hizo kuwa ni zile za kutibu malaria maarufu kwa jina la Alu, dawa za kutibu kifua kikuu na zile za kupunguza makali ya ukimwi.

"Na hata kama hizo za kutibu ukimwi zitakuwa zimepatikana, bado mataifa makubwa yana wajibu wa kuhakikisha zinaweza kuwafikia kirahisi watu katika nchi masikini," alisema Profesa Mwakyusa.

Mtaalamu huyo alieleza kwamba kinachofanywa na chembechembe za kinga za VRCO1 na VRCO2 kwenye mwilini binadamu, ni kuvibana virusi vya Ukimwi na kuvifanya vishindwe kuendelea kushambulia seli nyeupe za damu.

Kwa kawaida virusi vya Ukimwi hushambulia seli nyeupe za damu ambazo ni muhimu katika kusaidia mwili kujikinga na maradhi ama kwa jina jingine la kitaalamu CD4, ambako virusi vya Ukimwi hugeuza kuwa makazi yake.

"Kwa kutumia teknolojia tuliyogundua tutatengeneza aina ya chanjo ambayo kazi yake itakuwa ni kuufundisha mwili namna ya kutengeneza chembechembe za kinga aina ya VRCO1 ambazo zitakuwa na uwezo wa kupambana na virusi vya ukimwi," alisema Dk Fauci.

Wanasayansi wa Niaida walioshiriki kwenye utafiti huo ni Dk Peter Kwong, Dk John Mascola na Dk Gary Nabel.

Wataalamu hao wanaelezewa kuwa waliongoza timu mbili ambazo ziliendesha utafiti huo ambao ulihusisha damu za waathirika kutoka karibu kona zote za dunia.

“Tulitumia utaalamu wetu kujenga mazingira yote ya virusi wa Ukimwi na ndio tukaweza kufahamu namna ya kujenga mazingira ya kudhibiti virusi hivyo," alisema mmoja wa wajumbe wa jopo la madaktari hao waandamizi, Dk Nabel.

Aliongeza: "Haikuwa kazi rahisi kwa sababu virusi vya Ukimwi vina tabia ya kujibadilishabadilisha. Na hii ndiyo imekuwa ikiwapa taabu wataalamu wengi katika kupata tiba.

"Kujibadilishabadilisha huko kumefanya dunia kuwa na aina mbalimbali za virusi. Utafiti wetu umewezesha kutengeneza mazingira ya kukabiliana na namna zote za virusi kuweza kujigeuzageuza."

Jay-Z Teams With Alicia Keys To Raise HIV/AIDS Awareness

Rapper Jay-Z will headline Alicia Keys’ annual Black Ball charity event this September at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York.

Jay-Z will be joined by Alicia Keys and Sade during the event, which will raise funds for Keys’ charity Keep A Child Alive.

The organization has been holding the Black Ball fundraiser since 2005.

The charity event has raised over $10 million dollars since its inception.

Keep a Child Alive is a non-profit dedicated to providing life-saving anti-retroviral treatment, care and support services to children and families whose lives have been affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa and India.

DMX’S Wife Prepares Book, Finds Author

DMX’s wife Tahera Simmons is preparing the release of her book about life with the megastar and has found her co-author.

Tashera enlisted Aliya S. King, an author that has written books for “American Gangster” Frank Lucas and Faith Evans. King also recently released a book called “Platinum” which chronicles the lives of rappers and their wives.

One character in the book resembles Tashera. “I’m all up in there (the book),” Tashera joked with King at an book release party on Monday.

“When I first met Aliya, I was in a state where I was trapped and she was the first person that kind of opened me up. She started asking me questions about what it was like to be in the light of a super star, rap star.”

King wrote a story for VIBE magazine that chronicled the lives of Hip-Hop artists’ wives and it provided the ground work for the book.

Tashera Simmons said that King later came to her with the book and told her it was a fictitious tale that mirrored the real life accounts of these women and their men.

That is when the pair decided to join forces.

“I told her I am working on my book, “Strength of a Woman” and she told me to read (“Platinum”) and tell me what you think. It touched me. She’s writing my book now."

"Strength of a Woman" does not have a release date.

G-Unit Beats Down Overzealous Fan Who Hopped On Stage

An overzealous fan hopped on the stage and suffered the consequences, during a performance featuring 50 Cent and G-Unit in Brazil on Friday (July 9th).

Video has hit the internet of the performance, which took place at Wet N' Wild in Salvador, Brazil, where 50 Cent is currently touring.

Mid-way through his performance of "Ayo Technology," a man hops on the stage attempts to grab 50 Cent.

He is quickly pummeled by security offers, while G-Unit cohort Lloyd Banks can be seen striking the man, who is quickly booted from the sage.

50 Cent and G-Unit then resumed their performance of the popular song.

Miami Celebrates LeBron's Arrival, Rick Ross, DJ Khaled, Luke Weigh In

Former Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James celebrated his new deal with the Miami Heat during a celebration for 13,000 fans at the American Airlines Arena last night (July 9th) in Miami, Florida.

LeBron James, Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh - dubbed the three kings - were lifted on to the stage on a fork lift, in front of thousands of screaming fans.

The trio has played together in the past, earning a gold medal for U.S. Olympic Basketball team during the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.

“It feels right to be in this position to wear this uniform,” James told Miami fans. “We’re going to make the world know the Heat is back.”

Fans in Cleveland are taking the news of James’ departure hard.

In addition to burning LeBron’s iconic “23” jersey, a 10-story-tall image of LeBron James on a mural in downtown Cleveland is coming down today (July 10th).

The city of Cleveland and the region of Northeastern Ohio, is expected to lose between $20 million and $40 million dollars, now that James has left the city.

And while fans in Cleveland sulk over the 25-year-old’s departure, three of Miami’s top rappers believe the “Three Kings” will be good for their city.

The Black Eyed Peas and Jay-Z are among the top grossing touring acts in the world, according to new data released in Pollstar’s Mid Year Business Analysis.

The Top 100 Tours list is based on data surrounding a variety of artists and venues’ ticket sales during the first six month’s of 2010.

The Black Eyed Peas and Jay-Z are the only Hip-Hop acts on the entire list.

So far The Black Eyed Peas have pulled in $29.5 million, placing them at #6 on the chart, while Jay-Z is sitting comfortably at #12, with $22.5 million earned so far.

The rappers placed far above veterans like Elton John, Billy Joel and Eric Clapton.

So far, Bon Jovi is sitting at #1, by earning $52 million dollars in the past six months.

Other artists to make the list include Alicia Keys, who earned $11.7 million to take the #27th spot, while Mariah Carey has earned $9.1 million, placing her at #36.

On the worldwide ticket sales level, AC/DC is the highest earning band in the world, raking in $177.5 million, while The Black Eyed Peas are #5 in the world, with at total of $48.4 million earned.

Jay-Z’s international touring strategy has earned him another $24.2 million dollars, placing him at #23 worldwide.

Overall, ticket sales are down according to Pollstar’s data. The combined amount of tickets sales for the Top 100 artists was $965.5 million, down $196.8 million from 2009.

According to Pollstar, the 17% drop is the largest dip in ticket sales since 2005.

Lil Wayne was sentenced to three years of probation in Arizona after a plea deal was reached with prosecutors in regards to gun/charges related to a January 2008 arrest. Lil Wayne’s tour bus was stopped at a U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint near Yuma, Arizona. A drug sniffing dog uncovered over four ounces of marijuana, an ounce of cocaine, 41 grams of the drug Ecstasy and a .40 caliber pistol. Lil Wayne pleaded guilty to one count of possession of a dangerous drug, while the gun and other drug charges were tossed. Lil Wayne is serving a one-year prison sentence on Rikers Island, for attempted weapons possession, after drugs and a .40 caliber pistol was found in the rapper’s handbag.

Rapper Snoop Dogg attempted to hire out the entire European country of Liechtenstein as the backdrop for a new video.
